Everton Took A Marseille’s “Collapsed” Deal While In Talks For Neal maupay Exit
Everton remain in the race to sign Lorenz Assignon after Rennes rejected an “audacious” loan offer from Marseille, according to Foot Mercato.
Rennes reject audacious Lorenz Assignon loan exit as Everton eye late deal
The French news outlet reported on their website on 29 August that the Blues remain interested in the right-back heading into Deadline Day.
Rennes are open to the sale of Assignon if the club receives a suitable offer ahead of the 30 August deadline, with a loan exit ruled out, and Everton are weighing up their options.
Everton need to sign a full-back before the transfer deadline
Sean Dyche is running out of time to bolster his Everton side this transfer window and the side desperately needs additions in the full-back department.
Roman Dixon was thrown into the deep end against Tottenham. The 19-year-old made his Premier League debut in the 4-0 loss and surprisingly was a standout performer in the defeat.
Seamus Coleman returned to the side in the 3-0 win against Doncaster Rovers on Wednesday [28 August] but now at 35, should not be relied on to play the full Premier League schedule this season.
Ashley Young has also surpassed the twilight years of his career at 39, and the Blues need to freshen up their full-back options with Nathan Patterson recovering from a long-term injury and Vitali Mykolenko underperforming in the opening two fixtures.
Options are limited at this stage of the transfer window and the Blues would do well to find a full-back better than Assignon to fit the bill at Goodison Park.
The 24-year-old has been a regular in the Rennes side and gained Premier League experience last season, spending the second half of the 2023/24 campaign at relegated Burnley.
Not to mention that he is 11 and 15 years younger than Coleman and Young respectively and has the experience of the English top flight on his side, a trait that Dyche has been eager to add to his squad.
If Everton are indeed interested, they quite simply have to make their move now.
In other Everton news, a Blues transfer update has been shared on West Brom ace Tom Fellows.
