Birmingham City sign £3.4m winger and goalkeeper from Norwich City in dream XI – if bold AI prediction comes true

Birmingham City are well on course to secure an immediate promotion to the Championship from League One

Birmingham City are sat 12 points clear at the top of the League One table above both Wycombe Wanderers and Wrexham. They are set to secure an immediate return to the Championship.

The Blues turned to Chris Davies as their manager last summer after their relegation from the second tier. He has worked as the number two in the past of the likes of Celtic, Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur.

Davies has done an impressive job since taking over the Midlands outfit. He has the chance to bring in some new faces this summer when the new transfer window opens for business

Birmingham City predicted goalkeeper and defence

We have asked Grok to predict five players who Birmingham will sign later this year and to incorporate them into what their best starting XI will look like…

AI has predicted that the Blues will snap up goalkeeper Angus Gunn when his contract expires at Norwich City. AI said: “The Scotland international, who played at Euro 2024, has extensive Championship experience and is approaching the end of his contract with Norwich in the summer of 2025. If he doesn’t sign a new deal, he could become a free agent, making him an attractive option for Birmingham.”

At right-back, Nathaniel Clyne has been tipped to move to St Andrews when his deal runs out at Crystal Palace. AI said: “His contract with Palace expires in June 2025, potentially making him a free agent. Birmingham could see him as a cost-effective, short-term signing to add leadership and reliability at right-back, especially if Ethan Laird faces competition or moves on.”

Christoph Klarer and Ben Davies have formed a solid partnership at the heart of defence and are likely to keep their places in the second tier. Alex Cochrane joined last year from Hearts and has adapted well to life back in England.

Birmingham City predicted midfield and attack

Tomoki Iwata and Paik Seung-ho are two valuable assets for Birmingham in the middle of the park. They also have useful depth in that area from players like Marc Leonard.

The Blues are being back to bring back Nathan Redmond from Burnley. AI said: “A Birmingham native who came through the Blues’ academy, Redmond has Premier League and Championship experience, notably with Norwich City and Southampton. Despite injury setbacks this season at Burnley, where he hasn’t played in the league, his pedigree—over 300 top-flight appearances and a flair for creating chances—could make him a shrewd addition.”

John Swift is another who has been recommended by AI amid his uncertain future with rivals West Brom. AI said: “Swift has a strong Championship track record, notably with Reading, where he scored 31 goals and provided 33 assists in over 200 appearances, and he’s been a creative force for West Brom since joining in 2022.”

On the left wing, Tom Lawrence has been tipped to link up with Davies’ side from Rangers. AI said: “His versatility—he can play on either wing or as an attacking midfielder—along with his technical ability and goal-scoring threat, would complement Chris Davies’ possession-based style. While injuries have hampered him at Rangers, a move to Birmingham could offer a fresh start, and his experience could be a valuable asset for a side aiming to compete in the second tier.”

Jay Stansfield has scored 21 goals this term, 16 of which have come in the league, and leads the line well for Birmingham. He was snapped up from Fulham last summer after his impressive loan spell.

Predicted XI: Gunn; Clyne, Klarer, Davies, Cochrane; Paik, Iwata; Redmond, Swift, Lawrence; Stansfield

Transfermarkt value overall: £27million
