EFL Championships dream striker repaid his manager’s faith at the King Power Stadium
Super Eagles striker, Kelechi Iheanacho found the back of the net in Leicester City’s 2-0 win over Stoke City, helping them to the best-ever start by a team in the Championship, netsport.uk reports.
Leicester City coach, Enzo Maresca, recalled Kelechi Iheanacho into the starting eleven after the striker got just forty minutes of game-time in his last two games, scoring in both games despite getting limited minutes.
At the King Power Stadium, the striker repaid his manager’s faith by giving his team the lead in the 25th minute. The Foxes broke through the Potters’ defense thanks to Maresca’s methodical build-up play.
Ricardo Pereira was discovered just outside the box by Kieran Dewsbury-Hall, a talented Leicester midfielder. Iheanacho was found by the Portuguese right-back with the ideal through-ball, and the Super Eagles star didn’t waste any time scoring.
The 27-year-old played for 77 minutes until Maresca substituted Wilfred Ndidi and Jamie Vardy in his place. The eventual second goal, which gave the Foxes all three points, was a combination of the two substitutes.
Two minutes after coming on, a wonderful pass from Ndidi found Vardy, who had the goal gaping and tapped home for his fourth goal in his last six games.
With thirty points from their first eleven games, Maresca’s club has the best start in the Sky Bet Championships ever. The Italian manager is working to mold and advance his squad toward playing in the top division.
Prior to the friendlies against Mozambique and Saudi Arabia, the Super Eagles combination of Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Ihenacho will travel to join the rest of the Nigerian team at their training camp in Faro, Portugal.
