Eddie Howe has clear St James’ Park vision as Newcastle stadium changes mooted
The future of St James’ Park continues to spark debate as Newcastle United chiefs explore possible changes to the Magpies’ current stadium setup.
Industry-leading experts have been tasked with assessing possible changes that could be made to the iconic venue, as Newcastle seek to increase their capacity to meet increased demand. The ongoing debate regarding moving to a different location altogether rages on, with sections of the fanbase speculating over a new site being built on the Town Moor or other suitable plots of land.
Eddie Howe, however, remains consistent in his view Newcastle would be better off finding ways to make changes to their current home. Quizzed again over the future of St James’ Park, at his Friday morning media briefing, the Newcastle boss doubled down on his previous thoughts on the matter.
“I feel a connection with the stadium,” Howe told reporters. “I look at it when driving round Newcastle and it draws you in and that’s the beauty of where the stadium is.
“It’s never out of your thoughts and that’s a unique thing. There’s no other stadium like it. Personally I’d love to stay, develop what’s there and make it better for our supporters.”
Howe was last asked about the topic in December, where he also stated his desire to see Newcastle stay put for the long run. That vision is shared by the likes of Amanda Staveley and other high-ranking Newcastle chiefs but should the vast, desired changes to St James’ Park prove unachievable, it would be no surprise to see the north east outfit move elsewhere.
