Doctor: Rangers player likely to be ruled out for weeks

Rangers striker Zak Lovelace is likely to be a few weeks away from making his first-team return, according to Dr Rajpal Brar.

The injury expert has reacted to the news that the 18-year-old returned to B Team action following a hamstring injury in October.

The Englishman came on in the 54th minute of the 3-0 loss to Celtic at Lennoxtown on Wednesday, 7 February.

Discussing his situation exclusively with Ibrox News, Brar, a doctor in physical therapy and a sports scientist, said:

Based on the fact that he had been ruled out since October and only just made his B Team return, this was most likely a Grade 3 rupture of the hamstring.

Now that he’s back with the B team, his timeline will depend on how he responds to those sessions and then responds to first-team training.

It would be more like weeks than days.

B team intensity will obviously be lesser so the club can gauge if he’s at that level before introducing him back to the first team via bounce matches.

Lovelace keen to make Rangers first-team return?

The Englishman was on course to make his training return in December and while he did that, it took him over a month to play another game.

The teenager is immensely talented and it remains to be seen how Philippe Clement plans to re-integrate him into the first team.

Derek Ferguson has also been left thrilled by what he’s seen from the 18-year-old and if he is to commit his future at the club, he’ll need to play regularly.
