Dundee’s rearranged Premiership clash with Rangers WILL go ahead at Dens Park, it has been confirmed.

Title-chasing Gers visit the Dark Blues at the third time of asking tomorrow night after their previous two meetings were postponed. SPFL chiefs revealed yesterday that McDiarmid Park was on stand-by if Dens failed an official pitch inspection this morning. League bosses forked out to hire Uefa-accredited pitch experts to decide whether the dodgy surface was in a fit state to host Wednesday’s televised match.

Fans of both clubs with valid tickets would’ve been permitted entry to St Johnstone’s stadium if the game was moved 22 miles away to Perth, albeit with unallocated seating. However, it’s now been confirmed that Dens has been deemed playable and Gers’ long-awaited game in hand will definitely take place at Dundee’s home ground tomorrow night.

An SPFL statement read: “The SPFL can confirm that the cinch Premiership game between Dundee and Rangers scheduled for tomorrow, Wednesday April 17, is set to go ahead as planned at the Scot Foam Stadium, Dens Park. The game, which will be broadcast live on Sky Sports, kick-off 8.00pm, passed a pitch inspection by the match referee this morning.

“On the basis of the weather forecasts and following discussions with the SPFL-appointed pitch consultants, who have been at the stadium for a number of days, no further inspection is planned ahead of the match.”

A Dundee statement said: “We are delighted to announce that the pitch has passed the pitch inspection and the match will take place at The Scot Foam Stadium at 8pm tomorrow as planned. No further pitch inspection is planned. We would like to thank St Johnstone for offering McDiarmid Park.”

While a Rangers spokesperson added: “Following a pitch inspection, tomorrow’s Scottish Premiership match with Dundee will go ahead at Dens Park with an 8pm kick-off.”
