Detail; newcastle involved in a double striker deal
Newcastle United have been given a potential green light for a possible double summer transfer from Bournemouth, with the club chairman admitting that he won’t stand in the way of anyone moving.
The Toon have been credited with an interest in both centre-back Lloyd Kelly and striker Dominic Solanke ahead of the summer transfer window. Both have been key players for the Cherries in their Premier League campaign.
Kelly is expected to be available on a free transfer with his contract coming to an end. Bournemouth could still strike a deal to keep him beyond the summer, but few updates have been given on his future at the Vitality Stadium.
Newcastle could have an advantage in that the player worked with Eddie Howe during the manager’s time at Bournemouth. In fact, it was Howe who signed him for the club from Bristol City.
If Newcastle convince the defender to join, they could return to Bournemouth for a second summer signing in Solanke. The striker was linked with a move to St James’ Park during the January window, and the club could potentially reignite their interest when the summer window opens.
They have now been given encouragement by Bournemouth chairman Bill Foley, who seems to have opened the door to a possible exit for the striker. Solanke will have three years remaining on his contract when the window opens.
“I don’t think you can stand in the way of a player if he wants to move on and go in a different direction,” the Bournemouth chairman told Sky Sports News. “We have a really good team, a team that is really motivated to become a team, as opposed to a group of individuals.
