DEADLINE; Wolverhampton Wanderers Are Set To Finalise A Loan Exit For A Striker
Wolves have reportedly reached an agreement with Las Palmas to loan attacker Fábio Silva to La Liga for the rest of the season.
The Old Gold were understood to be keen on selling the 22-year-old permanently but suitable offers never landed. Instead, it’s hoped Silva can revive his form in Spain and in turn increase his value back to a reasonable level.
Our sister publication, Express & Star, reports Silva is very close to completing his loan move to Las Palmas. The Spanish side were in the headlines as recently as last night as they held giants Real Madrid to a 1-1 draw at Estadio Gran Canaria.
Things certainly haven’t worked out for Silva at Molineux since he arrived from Porto for a whopping £35 million. The former Portugal Under-21 international joined as a teenager with a mightily high ceiling but just five goals and six assists in 72 games label him a huge failure.
Loan moves to RSC Anderlecht, PSV Eindhoven and Rangers revitalised Silva’s form somewhat but the striker has no future with Wanderers. It was doomed from the very beginning, it appears, as the striker opened up in a revealing interview several months ago.
“I knew it wasn’t the time and I had no intention of going to Wolves at the time. I wanted to stay at Porto for another one or two years,” Silva sensationally said.
“I was almost forced. They told me that if I didn’t go, I would play for the B team and I wouldn’t help the club because their finances were in bad shape. There was no escape.
“There were other interested parties, but everything was geared towards Wolves. It would make more money, but in football things happen behind the scenes that you don’t control. It was a good deal for everyone but me,” Silva said.
