DEAD LINE; Gary O’Neil plots late additions

Published

Gary O’Neil has plenty of work to do before Deadline Day, with movement expected at Molineux before the window closes.

So far, the Old Gold have welcomed Pedro Lima, Rodrigo Gomes and Jorgen Strand Larsen, as well as signing Tommy Doyle permanently from Manchester City.

All of the club’s business was executed at the start of the summer, with things going quiet in the market since the flurry of arrivals.

As time ticks on, anticipation is growing at Wolves, with several deals expected to unfold over the next 24 hours.

One of the primary concerns at Molineux ahead of Deadline Day is that the club are still without a replacement for either Pedro Neto or Max Kilman.

A winger was expected to be delivered following Neto’s £54m exit to Chelsea, with a similar expectation there to replace Kilman in central defence.

Solutions to neither have been found as of yet, with three deals now likely to be sanctioned before deadline day, compiled of two arrivals and one exit. There are two almost-certain arrivals poised to make Wolverhampton home before Friday night.

Bastien Meupiyou was spotted at Molineux during last night’s Carabao Cup win over Burnley ahead of his £4.2m transfer to Wolves.

The 18-year-old centre-back will offer depth in the position however, where the teenager is at in terms of development at senior level is yet to be known.

Wolves’ also have a player incoming from Brazil, as Andre is set for a medical after an agreement was struck with Fluminense.

Andre represents Wolves’ blockbuster arrival of the summer, as a £21m deal has been agreed for the midfielder’s transfer from his homeland.

It will be hoped that an experienced centre-back will represent the third Deadline Day arrival although, at this point, it’s assumed that a move is unlikely.

O’Neil shocked many when he announced that Goncalo Guedes and Daniel Podence will stay at Wolves beyond the deadline.

The duo were expected to leave Molineux this summer after spending 2023/24 on loan, with a shot at Premier League redemption now possible.

Fabio Silva will certainly leave this summer but, an exit before Friday night would be a surprise given the lack of attention regarding an imminent transfer.

One player who could leave Wolves however is Dan Bentley, who is a target for Arsenal as the Gunners eye a third-choice shot-stopper.

Arsenal re-ignited their interest in Bentley after attempting to sign the Englishman earlier in the window.

Nothing is guaranteed in terms of an exit although, the goalkeeper seems the most likely to depart before Deadline Day at this moment.
