David Ornstein shares an update on Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak, underlined the one conceivable condition

Liverpool have been linked with a summer bid to recruit Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak.

Sweden’s international striker is currently regarded as one of the world’s top. He has been fantastic for the Magpies for almost a year, and he is about to be a wanted man.

Arsenal have been connected with Isak, and the 25-year-old would be an ideal fit for Mikel Arteta’s system at the Emirates.

However, the Gunners will face battle from Arne Slot’s Liverpool, the only team that has outperformed them this season.

Many expect Isak to hit the market this summer.

The Swede is approaching the peak of his career, and many believe he will leave Newcastle United this summer if the club fails to qualify for the Champions League.

Liverpool could use someone like Isak.

Darwin Nunez is poised to leave Anfield in the summer after failing to meet expectations. He has had a lot of troubles and isn’t at the top of Slot’s priority list.

Isak would be a huge upgrade, and David Ornstein has confirmed Liverpool’s interest in him. However, the journalist has revealed that the Reds will only make a move for the Swede if he is genuinely available for a transfer this summer.

Ornstein said in a Q&A on The Athletic: “They will obviously have multiple options on their radar but the only name I’ve personally heard of so far – which others have already reported – is Alexander Isak.

“Liverpool aren’t alone in liking the Swede – we know Mikel Arteta wants to sign him, Chelsea and Barcelona have been also been linked and I’m sure many other sides would be keen, too, if the opportunity arose. But that’s a big ‘if’.

“Newcastle have no intention of selling their best player and, understandably, don’t welcome this kind of conversation. Isak has more than three years left on his existing contract, he is very well paid and there’s no financial requirement for the St James’s Park hierarchy to cash in.

“Now, every player has their price and while I’m not aware of Newcastle specifically setting one for Isak, the number that seems to circulate around the industry is something like £150 million. Perhaps if teams are prepared to make such eye-watering offers there’s a conversation to be had. But Newcastle hold the aces here and their plan will be to build with, rather than without, him.

“Liverpool are only going to consider making a move if Isak is genuinely available; they’re not the type of club to engage in a wild goose chase. But I do think (sorry to say this, Newcastle fans) his future will be one of the big talking points heading into and during the summer transfer window.”

Which club is Alexander Isak most likely to sign for: Liverpool or Arsenal?

Liverpool and Arsenal are likely to compete for Isak’s signing if he becomes available this summer.

Fans of Arteta’s team have been fantasising about the 25-year-old for almost a year, and many believe he will eventually replace Thierry Henry at the Emirates.

According to journalist Steve Kay, Isak is likely to join Liverpool rather than Arsenal during the summer transfer window.

Even Jamie Carragher believes Isak would choose Liverpool over Arsenal if given the option before the start of next season.
