David Moyes Shared His Problem As Benrahma has grown frustrated
Said Benrahma, a forward for West Ham United, has grown disgruntled with his limited playing time at the London Stadium and his ongoing “problem” with David Moyes could force a January departure
The former Brentford forward played a crucial role throughout last season, appearing in 50 or so games, but has only started five games in all competitions this season with 303 minutes of Premier League action under his belt.
Jones thinks that Benrahma is struggling to maintain his composure due to his lack of opportunities.
“Well, it’s a problem that Said Benrahma keeps having, and he’s got to control his own feelings and not lash out when he probably feels like he belongs on the team,” he added.
And he needs to maintain his composure so that he can take advantage of his opportunities when they come his way.
“Obviously, he’s going to be feeling down whenever he is nudged down the pecking order at West Ham, but it’s such seems to be the story of his life at West Ham, and he’s dealt with it again and again, and he just has to keep on bouncing back and proving that he deserves more game time.”
While the Algerian international may be quelling the need to lash out every time he isn’t picked in the Hammers starting line-up, it’s always been a problem of his at the club given his lack of consistency.
Moyes may be perfectly justified in his decision to drop him now and again but it’s a problem which could simmer into an inevitable exit before long.
In addition to adding some excellent depth to this West Ham United team, recent additions like Mohammed Kudus, James Ward-Prowse, and Konstantinos Mavropanos should serve as a reminder to all club members that they are subject to replacement.
The Hammers will benefit from increased squad depth as they aim to participate in all four competitions this season, including those in Europe, but some players may get concerned for their first-team spot as a result.
And Benrahma has undoubtedly been afraid, especially after his key performance for the team last season, when he played in all 50 games as they won the Europa Conference League.
The former Brentford forward will undoubtedly have believed that his expanded role last season would ensure him starts this time around, but that hasn’t exactly occurred as of yet.
He will need to exercise patience, thus the initiative definitely belongs with him. He will undoubtedly have opportunities because the Hammers are fighting on all fronts, but he needs to seize them quickly.
If these “problems” persist, he might consider quitting in January, though it is debatable if he will have the patience to wait that long.
