Dave Boddy asserts his future at Coventry City LIVE with Mark Robins

Dave Boddy believes Mark Robins could be at Coventry City for the foreseeable future because it would take a lot to take him away from the Sky Blues, making this claim to Coventry L

Boddy was previously the club’s CEO and worked closely with Robins during a successful period for the Championship side.

Robins has been a big reason behind the Sky Blues’ success in recent years, guiding them from League Two to the second-tier play-off final, a magnificent achievement considering the adversity that the Sky Blues have faced during that time.

Not only were they forced to play away from the Coventry Building Society Arena until their return in 2021, but they also lost some key players along the way with Marc McNulty moving to Reading back in 2018.

Coventry’s boss has dealt with everything that has been thrown his way though – and his success makes it a surprise that he hasn’t been linked with more clubs.

Boddy confirmed that Sunderland had made an approach some time ago and Robins has previously been linked with Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion too, but Robins’ commitment to the cause has clearly been unwavering.

In fact, he has been the longest-serving manager in the second tier, still an excellent achievement despite the fact this is no surprise, with managerial turnover remaining high at this level.

Boddy on Robins’ Coventry City future

In bad news for other teams who could potentially want Robins, Boddy believes he won’t be going anywhere anytime soon.

He told Coventry Live: “I think it will take a lot to take him away from the club. He’s been instrumental in what’s happened over the last seven years.

“He’s very driven and he’s always looking at ways of improving situations, whether that’s players within the resources available or his staff that he’s built up around him.

“At every stage he’s looked to improve things and drive the club forward.

“He’s done a phenomenal job and I am amazed other clubs haven’t come knocking on the door for him. There’s only been one to my knowledge during my time at the club (Sunderland) in terms of an official approach and that was quickly rebuffed by him.

“He didn’t want to go, by the way. I am just amazed someone hasn’t taken him.”

Coventry City need to stick with Mark Robins

Even if the Sky Blues miss out on the top six this term, it seems clear that the club are in safe hands with Robins.

They may have suffered some disappointing results this term, but that was perhaps to be expected following their play-off final loss.

Not only did Robins have to deal with that, but a couple of other factors also came into play.

They signed quite a few players in the summer and they needed time to settle in, so it was always unlikely that they were going to hit the ground running during the early stages of the 2023/24 campaign.

And they also lost Viktor Gyokers and Gus Hamer.

Robins has dealt with all this quite well, so there are no reasons to sack him anytime soon.
