Crystal Palace to start contract with £60,000-a-week man
Crystal Palace are now set to open talks with star midfielder Cheick Doucoure over a potential new deal.
For all of the problems and uncertainty right now, the shining positive beyond all is just how talented the squad at Selhurst Park currently is.
With 76-year-old Roy Hodgson on his way out in 2024 – sooner or later – the managerial situation is under a great deal of scrutiny and uncertainty.
Then it has also been added that the ownership status is now in peril with John Textor keen to sell his 45% stake, as he grows weary of Steve Parish.
So with those negatives along with some appalling football, fans are understandably tired of this campaign, however, finally some good news has emerged.
Cheick Doucoure could now sign new Crystal Palace deal
One of the most talented players in the ranks at Copers Cope Road is midfielder Cheick Doucoure.
The 23-year-old Mali international has been injured for a few months now but his quality is still in the back of our minds and clearly, the club agree, with a new contract being touted.
Now according to South London Press journalist, George on X, Palace are set to open contract talks with Doucoure over an improvement on his current £60k-a-week contract at Selhurst Park.
Doucoure had surgery on his Achilles injury as reported by The Independent in early December, but hopes are high that he will feature again this campaign.
The new contract is likely to ward off any further interest from Liverpool or other sides in the Premier League given Jurgen Klopp showed substantial interest last summer.
The New Doucoure contract is similar to Michael Olise’s and could ward off interest
In the summer, Doucoure was on Liverpool’s list with a potential £50m deal rumoured to be on the cards. This ultimately didn’t happen, with Liverpool instead singing Wataru Endo and Ryan Gravenberch on loan – both of which were not quite of the level required.
This could leave Palace vulnerable to Doucoure interest once more, however, a new contract perhaps with a large release clause might be enough to make Liverpool take a hint.
Similarly to how Michael Olise signed a new contract to fend off Chelsea, Doucoure could play a similar role to ensure Palace receive top market value for their gems.
