Chris Davies Expects Imminent Loan Transfers, And Insists That His Star Must Stay
Chris Davies expects imminent loan transfers with one Birmingham City player set to stay
Birmingham City are mulling over loan enquiries for players who aren’t currently part of Chris Davies’ plans.
Blues have loaned left-back Manny Longelo to League One rivals Cambridge United for the season and more departures are expected in the final week of the transfer window. Davies has already confirmed that George Hall, 20, is free to find regular football elsewhere.
“There’s a bit of interest from the loan side of things in those boys,” Davies told BirminghamLive. “For us it’s about finding the right place for them. There’s plenty of interest from what I understand, which is great news, there are people that want to take them.
“Then it’s down to us to decide strategically where is the best place for them to go. For us it’s about game time more than anything else, otherwise they could hang around here and train with us and develop in that way. It’s about making sure they go somewhere they get the best chance to get minutes on the pitch. Hopefully that will get done in the next few days.”
One player who isn’t expected to depart before the deadline on August 30 is Brandon Khela – although nothing is certain at this time of year. Khela has impressed Davies with his versatility and enthusiasm and scored his first goal for Blues with a stunner in the Carabao Cup at Charlton last week.
Davies commented: “At this stage, and it can all move around a little bit, the player that has probably been through the process is Brandon Khela. He obviously scored a goal, played at Charlton, came on against Wycombe, and has contributed really well daily in training and shown good qualities
I would envisage Brandon being one of those players that stays with us. The majority of the other ones that spring to mind would all go, if they found the right loan, to try and get some exposure to match minutes.
“Brandon was pretty clear with me that he was really hungry to show what he could do and he is ready to deliver in any position when called upon. I just thought his mindset and the conversation I had with him really showed me, for such a young guy, there’s a real maturity there and a real desire to be here and play for this club. I really liked that.
“Then, on the training pitches and in games, he’s played pretty much everywhere. We have been short in that area so he’s ended up playing left, right and centre-back, and he’s actually a midfielder. He can cope physically as well and he’s obviously been up to Ross County to play men’s football, and he’s decent on the ball and the attitude is exceptional so I have been really impressed.”
