Chicago Bears Weapon To Finally Break Out In 2024
Roschon Johnson could be the Chicago Bears asset with the biggest breakout potential in the 2024 NFL season. Although he did not exactly erupt right out of the gate of his pro career in 2023, the running back showed flashes of brilliance, albeit in a limited role in the team’s ground attack. For ESPN’s Dan Graziano, Johnson’s sophomore NFL campaign will have the tailback turning more heads and converting doubters into believers.
He was a part of a three-man running back committee for most of his rookie season, but Bears coaches thought all along he was the back who had the most complete skill set. With a full offseason to work on the holes in his game, a new offensive coordinator and a season’s worth of reps under his belt, Johnson should emerge as a star in his second season.
Early 2024 NFL Season Outlook For Chicago Bears Running Back Roschon Johnson
Although there is not a clear pathway to an RB1 role for Johnson at the moment, the Chicago Bears can still find him enough work for him to shine in the 2024 campaign. The Bears still have both Travis Homer and Khalil Herbert under payroll, not to mention dual-threat quarterback Justin Fields, who led Chicago in 2023 with 657 rushing yards on 124 carries. Herbert can still be viewed as ahead of Johnson in the RB pecking order, but the expected departure of D’Onta Foreman to free agency is going to be a plus for the former Texas Longhorns’ star to get more reps on the field.
If the Bears ultimately decide to let go of Fields and draft a new quarterback, that will also likely open the door for a bigger role on offense for Johnson, who was taken by the Chicago Bears in the fourth round (115th overall) of the 2023 NFL Draft.
