Why Chelsea cancelled £20m transfer of Leeds United’s Tyler Adams

Chelsea pulled out of their deal to sign Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams due to concerns over his injury, according to reports.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side are prioritising a move for Moises Caicedo and have now agreed a £115 million deal with Brighton for the Ecuador international.

But Chelsea were also expected to complete a deal for Adams after meeting the £20m release clause in his contract with Leeds earlier this week.

However, MailOnline reports that Chelsea cooled their interest over fears surrounding his hamstring injury.

The report claims that Adams should return after the international break in September, however, Chelsea are now focused on signing Caicedo and Romeo Lavia from Southampton.

Earlier this week, Chelsea submitted an improved £55m bid for Lavia, which is in excess of Southampton’s £50m asking price.

Liverpool have already had multiple offers for the 19-year-old rejected by the Championship club.

Caicedo, meanwhile, is set to become the Premier League’s most-expensive player, overtaking the £105m Chelsea spent on signing Enzo Fernandez from Benfica in January.

Chelsea’s new Premier League campaign begins against Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.
