Carlos Augusto Likely to Choose Champions League Finalists Over Forest

The Daily Mail reports that Nottingham Forest were making backup plans in case Renan Lodi doesn’t return. Forest would like to bring the Brazilian back on a permanent basis, but such a move seems tricky.

Now, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Inter Milan are leading Forest in the pursuit of the on-form defender, Carlos Augusto. The City Ground doesn’t consider him a top target, unlike Inter, who view him as a main option for their left-back position.

Augusto’s recent performance has sparked interest from various clubs. In the 2022/23 season, he scored six goals and provided five assists, helping Monza secure a respectable 11th place finish.

Augusto has been with the Italian club since 2020, joining from Corinthians. He’s developed greatly since embarking on his European journey.

Forest are likely to need a left-back this summer. Harry Toffolo backed up Lodi last season, with Omar Richards expected to return for pre-season training.

If Forest can’t secure Lodi again, manager Steve Cooper will aim to sign an attacking full-back. Augusto, who’s often played as a wing-back for Monza, fits the bill nicely.

It’s unfortunate for Forest that Inter, recent Champions League runners-up, are leading the race for Augusto. The player could be a solid replacement for Lodi, who’s likely to move away after his loan spell at the City Ground.

Augusto had a stellar season with Monza, contributing significantly to their decent Serie A campaign, and standing out as one of the better attacking left-backs.

Inter, who narrowly lost the Champions League final to Manchester City, aim to go one step further next season. They believe Augusto can help them achieve this.

Monza’s boss, Raffaele Palladino, is a big fan of Augusto. He called him ‘extraordinary’ in April, suggesting a promising future lies ahead.

Forest would love to bring in Augusto if they can’t secure Lodi. But the latest news suggests they face an uphill battle, with Inter set to sign their target.
