Carlos Speaks honestly about how he felt after the 2025 Monte-Carlo Masters final after beating Lorenzo Musetti.
Alcaraz didn’t play his best tennis at the ATP Masters 1000 event in Monte-Carlo, but he played well enough to win the title. In the final, the Spaniard overcame Lorenzo Musetti, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.
Musetti was able to win the first set of the match, but he couldn’t match the four-time Grand Slam champion in the second set, and in the third set, the Italian started struggling with an injury.
Musetti even requested a physio, consulting his injury, which prevented him from fighting until the end. The Italian player basically walked off the last three games, as he didn’t want to retire from the match, trying to give the fans at least some show.
Alcaraz obviously wasn’t happy about what he saw on the opposite side of the net, but there was nothing he could do about it. The Spaniard just had to keep winning one rally after another and eventually lift the title.
After the match, Alcaraz spoke about how he felt, saying that he felt sorry for his opponent, who couldn’t finish the match fighting.
“I am really happy to win Monte-Carlo for the first time. It has been a really difficult week with a lot of difficult situations. I am proud with how I dealt with everything. It has been a difficult month for me, so coming here and seeing the hard work pay off makes me happy.”
After the final, Musetti explained his physical struggles, saying he couldn’t compete at the level he wanted to towards the end of the match, as his physical struggles took over.
“I was feeling the ball really well today. I had a clear mind what I had to do. But physically I was struggling. From the beginning, I was trying to compensate a little bit with the freedom to play.”
“At the end, the physical problems and the fatigue and stress accumulated in the past days and past matches was there. So unfortunately I couldn’t finish the match. I mean, I couldn’t fight until the end.”
