The Newcastle United striker Callum Wilson’s astonishing West Ham goal

In order to face West Ham this weekend, Eddie Howe will be praying that his No. 9 is healthy.

If Callum Wilson’s health is a concern for Newcastle fans ahead of Sunday’s match against West Ham, Hammers fans are crossing their fingers that he is not selected. Because if the England striker is able to overcome his injuries and take the field at the London Stadium, he’ll be aiming to add to an unbelievable scoring total against the home team.

With what Eddie Howe described as a “minor hamstring problem,” Wilson missed Newcastle’s recent victory against Manchester City and Burnley as well as their Champions League match against PSG. However, the United manager would adore having his best player return to lead the line this weekend. Wilson’s record of 12 goals in 13 appearances while wearing the jerseys of Manchester United and Bournemouth makes West Ham one of his favorite Premier League opponents.

In an easy 5-1 league victory in April at the London Stadium, Newcastle’s No. 9 scored twice. The 31-year-old also scored his team’s lone goal in the rematch at St. James’ Park, where the teams were tied for first place.

Wilson scored on his Magpies debut against West Ham in September 2020. Since then, he has netted five goals in as many games, missing only once in a 3-2 away win in April 2021, a game in which he only participated for 26 minutes of the second half.

In Bournemouth’s 4-3 victory away from home against the Hammers, Wilson struck a hat-trick for the Cherries. After scoring twice with vicious shots in the opening 30 minutes, he secured all three points with a penalty in the 79th minute.

The talisman most recently assisted Newcastle in a 5-1 rout of their opponents when he made an earlier trip to East London, scoring twice. With a deft header from 12 yards out, Wilson gave his team a quick advantage after just six minutes. Following Nayef Aguerd’s error in the first minute of the second half, Wilson scored his second goal.

It’s interesting to note that, with Howe’s help, Wilson has grown accustomed to playing on the Hammers’ field. Ten of the forward’s 12 goals against West Ham have been scored when he was managed by Howe, and seven of those 12 goals have been scored on the road.

Wilson’s record against David Moyes’ squad surpasses his mark against the Scotsman’s old employer Everton to become his personal best against a single club. The striker for United has scored eight goals in ten games against the Merseysiders, four fewer than he has against the opponents this weekend.

Newcastle fans will be hoping their star man will be fit to start come 2pm on Sunday and not only because of his magnificent record against the Hammers. Wilson’s current form has him sitting fourth in the Premier League goalscoring charts on the back of three goals in as many games.
