Abdul Fatawu is finally a permanent Leicester City player with the winger signing a five-year deal to stay at the club.

One of the stars of City’s Championship triumph during a season-long loan from Sporting Lisbon, the 20-year-old wide-man has joined in a £14m transfer that will delight supporters. Fatawu’s dribbling ability, speed, attacking threat and defensive work-rate has made him a fan favourite.

It was expected that Fatawu would be City’s first signing of the summer. Sporting manager Ruben Amorim confirmed the deal would be going ahead in early May, while Fatawu himself has been talking up the move on social media over recent weeks.

Fatawu adds plenty to the attack, having registered seven goals and 13 assists last season. He improved as the campaign went on and delivered the best individual display of City’s title glory when he scored a hat-trick in a 5-0 demolition of Southampton.

Before moving to City on loan, Fatawu had only started one game of senior football in Europe. For picking him out and bringing him to the club, recruitment chief Martyn Glover earned praise from former manager Enzo Maresca.
