Bolton Wanderers Boss Caught “An Eye Target” For Summer Transfer After Wrexham Star Man Made A Strong…
Bolton Wanderers boss praises one Wrexham player who has really caught his eye recently
Wrexham could only pick up a point on Saturday afternoon, drawing 1-1 with Bolton Wanderers at the STōK Cae Ras.
Wrexham were looking for a big response as Phil Parkinson received a visit from former club Bolton Wanderers.
Parkinson saw Wrexham lose to Peterborough United in the EFL Trophy on Wednesday night, squandering a golden chance to play in a Wembley final.
Wrexham had to put that to one side against Bolton on Saturday but Parkinson’s side simply couldn’t find a winning goal.
Chances came and went for Wrexham as Sam Smith couldn’t find the net with a first-half header before Tom O’Connor fired a close-range strike over the bar.
Wrexham had to settle for a 0-0 draw but goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo deserves a moment of praise for a superb save, denying Aaron Collins late on.
Bolton Wanderers boss impressed with Arthur Okonkwo
Collins drilled a low strike towards goal with time ticking down at the STōK Cae Ras.
Okonkwo managed to get enough on the shot to divert it past the post, preserving his and Wrexham’s clean sheet.
That was Bolton’s only shot on target on the day but Okonkwo was up to the challenge.
Parkinson will have loved that moment for Okonkwo, and it turns out that he impressed Bolton’s Steven Schumacher too.
Schumacher praised Wrexham’s ‘huge’ squad before the game and Okonkwo is one player to have caught his eye.
Speaking on Bolton’s official YouTube channel, Schumacher praised Okonkwo’s save from Collins as ‘really good’.
Schumacher added that Okonkwo is ‘not bad’ having been impressed with him in the EFL Trophy too, highlighting that the Wrexham stopper is a ‘big lad’ and a factor in why Wrexham don’t concede many goals.
“Aaron Collins had a snapshot that the goalie made a really good save from,” said Schumacher.
“He’s not bad that goalie actually, he made a good save against us in the Trophy game. He’s a big lad, these are good – they don’t give up too many goals, I know they’ve had a little bit of a dip in form at home recently, but you could see today that they were fired up for the game,” he added.
Arthur Okonkwo settled in Wrexham XI again
Okonkwo suffered a wrist injury back in November though, keeping him on the sidelines for around six weeks.
Returning with questionable form, Okonkwo was dropped by Parkinson against Crawley Town with the Wrexham boss admitting that he rushed him back too quickly.
Okonkwo has returned now though and appears to be finding his form again, as seen by his brilliant stop on Saturday.
Let’s hope this continues; Okonkwo finding his best form again could be absolutely vital in the race for promotion out of League One
