Birmingham City manager Chris Davies has made a bold statement by handing Bristol City loanee Taylor Gardner-Hickman his full debut in today’s League One encounter against Wigan Athletic. Gardner-Hickman replaces Marc Leonard in the center of midfield, who drops to the bench despite his impressive performance against Fulham.

Of the Blues’ three deadline day signings, only Scott Wright was eligible to play in today’s match. Jay Stansfield and Tomoki Iwata will have to wait for their Birmingham debuts.

Davies has made three changes to the team that faced Fulham in the Carabao Cup. Bailey Peacock-Farrell starts in goal, Luke Harris returns to the attack, and Keshi Anderson is out due to injury. Ryan Allsop and Scott Wright are among the substitutes.

The Blues’ starting XI features the familiar back four of Ethan Laird, Christoph Klarer, Krystian Bielik, and Alex Cochrane. Gardner-Hickman and Paik Seung-ho will form the midfield duo, while Harris, Willum Willumsson, and Emil Hansson will support Alfie May in the attack.

Birmingham City Starting XI (4-2-3-1):

  • Peacock-Farrell
  • Laird
  • Klarer
  • Bielik
  • Cochrane
  • Seung-ho

  • Willumsson

  • May

Substitutes:

This match is a crucial test for Birmingham City as they aim to make a strong start to the League One season. Gardner-Hickman’s performance will be closely watched as he looks to prove his worth to the Blues.
