Birmingham City Set For Another Huge Transfer Swoop, Before transfer Window’s Deadline
According to the Football Insider, Rangers winger Scott Wright is set to join League One side Birmingham City after a deal was agreed between the two clubs.
The 27-year-old is set for his first move outside Scotland, coming through Aberdeen’s academy and experiencing a loan move at Dundee FC before his move to the Scottish giants in early 2021. Despite making over 100 appearances in blue in Glasgow, over half of his appearances have come off the bench, making 48 starts. The winger has made 19 goal contributions in his three years at the club.
According to journalist Darren Witcoop, multiple Championship clubs including the likes of Derby County, Preston North End and Sheffield Wednesday all showed interest in the winger this summer, but the League One side have won the race for his signature.
It is no secret that Birmingham are looking to bounce straight back up to the Championship after a disappointing 2023/24 campaign that saw the club get relegated. New manager Chris Davies has had an extremely busy start to life at St. Andrews on the transfer front, with Wright set to be the club’s 14th summer signing. Wright follows in centre-back Ben Davies’s steps, with Davies also joining Birmingham from Rangers. Alongside the two Rangers players who have left Glasgow for Birmingham this summer, the likes of Alfie May, Alex Cochrane, Emil Hansson, Marc Leonard, Christoph Klarer and Taylor Gardner-Hickman have all walked through the door, showcasing Blue’s impressive European and domestic pull in the market.
Davies has enjoyed a strong start to life in League One, winning two of the first three matches and remaining unbeaten in the league so far.
With just two days left of the window, the Blues, alongside many other clubs, are looking to quickly wrap up their business.

It is easy to see how much of a financial backing the new owners have given Davies this season. They have broken the League One transfer record, and not just once, but multiple times. Promotion back up to the Championship is the goal, and with the amount of money Birmingham have spent, you would expect it to be the bare minimum. This transfer window will go down as one huge financial risk and potential disaster if Brum don’t get back up to the second tier at the first time of asking.
For Wright, a move to England makes sense for the Scotsman. He is out of favour at Rangers, and a move south provides him with the opportunity to play first-team football again. As previously mentioned, Birmingham have beaten three Championship sides to the 27-year-old’s signature, which shows Wright’s confidence in the club and the club’s confidence in the player.
This move will also benefit Rangers, with Wright one of three players Rangers reportedly wanted to get rid of before the window closes on Friday.
