Birmingham City are facing an FA charge after trouble flared during their 3-1 defeat at Bolton Wanderers last week.

Emil Hansson scored his first league goal for Blues to put them in front at the Toughsheet Community Stadium last Tuesday – but Wanderers hit back to claim all three points and inflict the visitors’ first league defeat in 19 games.

Now the FA have added insult to injury by charging both teams after tempers flared in the 95th minute of the game.

An FA statement read: “Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City have been charge following the mass confrontation at their EFL League One fixture on Tuesday, March 4.

“Both clubs allegedly failed to ensure that their players didn’t behalf in an improper and/or provocative way around the 95th minute, Bolton Wanderers and Birmingham City have until Wednesday, March 12 to provide their respective responses.”

Bolton boss Steven Schumacher admitted Blues were ‘outstanding’ as they set about his team. Unfortunately, that purple patch only lasted until Hansson’s goal on 23 minutes

Wanderers hit back against the run of play six minutes before half-time, John McAtee’s low shot beating stand-in Blues keeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell at his near post.

And Bolton then scored two more second-half goals to sentence Chris Davies’ side to a first reverse since losing at bottom club Shrewsbury on November 23.
