Birmingham City Began “Premier League Attendance Preparation,” And Here Is The…

How Birmingham City attendances would stack up in the Championship and the Premier League

Birmingham City have regularly enjoyed sell-out attendances at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park this season

Birmingham City have by far and away the biggest crowds in League One – and they would fare very well in the Championship too.

Blues have been backed by sell-out crowds on a fortnightly basis this season with long suffering fans flocking to the revamped St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park.

The football has helped, with Chris Davies’ side the runaway leaders in League One and on course for an immediate return to the Championship, but Blues were backed before a ball was kicked this season.

The club sold in excess of 18,000 season tickets and their hospitality spaces are rarely anything other than sold out.

Blues’ recent FA Cup meeting with Newcastle United was watched by 27,994 and they have almost touched 28,000 on two occasions in League One. The capacity of St Andrew’s is around 29,500 but it is impossible to fill every single seat due to segregation.

In League One, Blues have an average attendance of 26,190 – a figure which is higher than 18 of the 24 Championship clubs and three Premier League teams.

Only Sunderland, Leeds United, Derby County, Sheffield United, Coventry and Norwich can top Blues’ average attendance in the Championship. Each of those six clubs has a larger stadium than Blues, hence why owners Knighthead plan to build a new stadium in the near future.

Sheffield Wednesday, Middlesbrough and West Bromwich Albion are among the Championship clubs with smaller average attendances than Blues this season.

Blues boast larger attendances than Crystal Palace, Brentford and Bournemouth in the Premier League attendance table.
