Birmingham City are keen to bring the striker back this summer

Blackburn Rovers are keen on Birmingham City target Jay Stansfield at Fulham, according to reporter Alan Nixon on his Patreon. John Eustace’s side want to sign the striker following Sammie Szmodics’ exit to Premier League new boys Ipswich Town.

Fulham FC - New Deal And Loan For Stansfield

The Blues want to lure the attacker back to the Midlands on a permanent basis this summer following their relegation to League One. However, they face competition from teams in the Championship.

Stansfield, who is 21-years-old, was a hit at Birmingham last season and scored 13 goals in all competitions. He has since returned to Fulham and they have a decision to make on what to do with him next.

The England youth international has been linked with a few teams in this window. The Evening Standard claimed in May that QPR like him, Football Insider have reported Stoke City want him and HullLive has suggested Hull City are admirers.

Fulham boss Marco Silva said in May: “He’s going to be back with us. Everything we planned, apart from the collective goal of Birmingham which was not what we wanted, was a box [ticked].

“He played the season before in League One [with Exeter City], and to be able to give a step forward in the Championship and be an important piece in the attack-line and score important goals [was pleasing]. Jay achieved all the important things. Now is the moment for him to come back and be one of the players in our attacking line for next season.”

Stansfield rose up through the ranks at Exeter City before moving to Craven Cottage in 2019. He was loaned back to the Grecians before his move to Birmingham 12 months ago.

Time will tell whether the Blues will be able to reunite with the player. Blackburn is the latest team to enter the chase and are in need of new players after cutting ties with key man Szmodics.

Rovers stayed up on the final day of last term under former Birmingham boss Eustace. They have four points on the board now after drawing away at Norwich City this weekend.
