David Beckham set to add to Tom Brady stardust at Birmingham City

Birmingham City welcome Wrexham to St Andrew’s on Monday evening and Rob McElhenney and Tom Brady will be watching their clubs

Rob McElhenney, the Hollywood actor who part owns Wrexham, has astonishingly suggested that David Beckham will be in attendance when the Dragons visit Birmingham City on Monday evening.

Blues v Wrexham is a hotly anticipated League One fixture for which the Sky Sports cameras – and a full house – will be in attendance tonight, but there’ll be a sprinkling of A-List stardust expected there, too, along with the club’s new partners Delta Airlines.

He won’t be alone; Wrexham part owner McElhenney, who bought the Welsh club with Deadpool actor Ryan Reynolds and has since inspired two successive promotions to the third tier, won’t be joined by his counterpart but he has remarkably hinted that former England captain and Inter Miami founder Beckham will be visiting, too.

“Directly after the Emmys I’m hopping on a plane and going out to Birmingham, England, to watch Wrexham play Tom Brady’s team, Birmingham City,” McElhenney said. “We’re not legally allowed to bet on the games but we have fun, we have social media and whatnot. I’ll be joining him and I believe Mr David Beckham will be there as well – we should have a good time.”

Beckham played a single game at St Andrew’s in the Premier League, when he visited with Manchester United in February 2003 after Blues had been promoted under Steve Bruce. There are also reports that Brady, McElhenney and Beckham will be joined by another actor, Will Ferrell; the funnyman, known for his roles in Elf and Anchorman, owns shares in Leeds United and was at Elland Road for their 1-0 loss to Burnley on Saturday.
