‘Australia, don’t waste my time’: Wallabies have last laugh as England great’s sledge backfires

Speaking on a podcast about next year’s British and Irish Lions tour of Australia, Youngs smugly said “Australia, don’t waste my time”.

England’s all-time record holder for appearances – with 127 caps – suggested that the Lions should tour South Africa instead in 2025, and the Wallabies playing group clearly used his comments to fire themselves up.

Post-game as the Australian and English players applauded one another for their efforts, microphones picked up Wallabies lock Lukhan Salakaia-Loto cheekily saying “what’s his name? Where’s Ben Youngs?”.

Backrower Fraser McReight also had some fun with the barbs being thrown the Wallabies way.

He admitted that the Australian camp had not been immune to “a lot of negativity from English rugby to Australian rugby recently”, and it was “great” to force the likes of Youngs to eat humble pie

“It’s always great to shut up critics right?,” he said post-match.

“Everyone did their job really well tonight.

“No one got let down or let their teammates down. We went out there and were able to achieve something we hadn’t done for almost 10 years. It was pretty special to be a part of it.”

The Wallabies next play Wales in Cardiff in the early hours of Monday morning on November 18 before they take on Scotland and Ireland respectively in the remaining matches of their Spring Tour.
