Ally McCoist & Jeff Stelling share new Rangers verdict live on air today
Ally McCoist has insisted the Old Firm clash will be “absolutely massive” in determining who of Rangers or Celtic will win the SPFL title this season.
The Rangers legend claimed that, as things stand, the title race is on the flip of a coin, but the Old Firm derbies could be the decider of where the title heads this summer.
McCoist has been critical of both clubs’ form this season after they toiled yet again at the weekend, but Jeff Stelling claimed their inconsistency has set up more dramatic derbies.
Speaking live on talkSPORT [4 March, 06:51], McCoist predicted: “It’s a flip of the coin at this moment in time. The two Old Firm games will be absolutely massive, but both sides at the weekend really toiled. It’s a tough one, but at least we’ve got a race.”
Stelling then weighed in: “Well, those Old Firm games are going to be so dramatic, aren’t they? There’s so much at stake.”
Ally McCoist predicts intense Old Firm derbies
Clashes between the two Old Firm clubs are always firey affairs regardless of the stakes involved, but with the title race as close as it is proving to be this season, there will be an added element of hunger to both teams heading into the games.
The next Old Firm comes at Ibrox in April but given the inconsistency shown on both sides this season, it feels unlikely that either Rangers or Celtic will have pulled any real distance away in the title race before that game rolls around.
And with the title race as close as it is, the Old Firm games could be decisive in terms of the eventual outcome. McCoist’s claims that these games will be “absolutely massive” may even be underplaying the stakes at hand.
This has come shortly after the Ibrox hero suggested the title race will go down to the wire, with neither club looking likely to make a solid claim on first place in the SPFL.
