Alan Stubbs embarrasses himself after what he said about Rangers & Clement

Published

Alan Stubbs attempted to discredit Philippe Clement and his achievements at Rangers so far by claiming he is yet to win anything – despite the Ibrox club lifting the Viaplay Cup in December.

In an embarrassing moment, Stubbs was interviewed by PLZ Soccer [20 February] when he declared that, despite impressing this season, fans must consider the boss hasn’t won anything.

His desperate attempts to discredit and play down what Clement and Rangers have achieved so far this season have now left the ex-Celtic man red-faced.

Speaking to PLZ Soccer, Stubbs shared: “I think the response that Philippe Clement has got from his players in terms of not just results, but how they’ve bought into his style of management has been impressive.

“He’s done a really good job up to now, but without winning anything, so we must state that fact.”

Philippe Clement continues to upset the odds at Rangers

Even Stubbs’ admission that Clement has done a good job appeared to come through gritted teeth and had to be followed by some sort of dismissal. All that shows is how much Rangers’ success is getting to Celtic supporters.

That Viaplay Cup final win was just the start of what all at Ibrox hope will be a hugely impressive season, having moved ahead of their Old Firm rivals in the SPFL with hopes of pushing on from here.

Most of the issues at Celtic have come from their own doing, with the club appearing to self-destruct in games, but Clement has positioned his Rangers side perfectly to take advantage.

There must still be caution taken, of course. It’s not over until it’s over. What is clear, though, is that Clement’s management is proving to be a huge step in the right direction at Ibrox.

Graeme Souness has questioned whether the team will be able to deal with the pressure of leaving the title race, and if they can, it looks likely they could go all the way.
