Alan Shearer and Gary Lineker in agreement over ‘sensational’ Newcastle United star
Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer were full of praise for Bruno Guimaraes’ two-goal performance in Newcastle United’s win at Nottingham Forest on Saturday.
The Brazilian midfielder scored the first and the final goal in a five-goal thriller at the City Ground as Eddie Howe’s made it two wins from their last three Premier League games and strengthened their push for European qualification.
Guimaraes’ first saw him delicately cushion Kieran Tripper’s cross to the back post past Matt Turner, while his second – after Forest had equalised through Anthony Elanga and Callum Hudson-Odoi – was a low-driven effort into the bottom corner.
Assessing Guimaraes, who made the move to St James’ Park from Lyon in January 2022 for roughly £40m, Shearer couldn’t hide his adulation for the Brazilian.
“I thought Bruno Guimaraes was sensational,” said legendary Newcastle United forward Shearer. “More advanced role as well. He played more forward. But what about his finish?
“You know from the ball in from Trippier from the set-piece. The volley, it’s one of the most difficult things to do, that, when the ball’s coming from where it is. And to hit it with that first foot, with your right foot to do as he did, was an incredible finish.”
Lineker, meanwhile, was in complete agreement with Shearer, speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, adding: “I love watching him play.”
