Alan Brazil moots Celtic confusion in new Rangers dig after Hibernian setback

Rangers must have got Hibernian’s colours mixed up with those of Celtic in their 3-3 draw at Easter Road, Alan Brazil has joked.

Speaking on talkSPORT (8 January, 6:08am), Brazil suggested to Ally McCoist that the Gers had reverted to type against Hibs in their 3-3 draw having thumped Old Firm rivals Celtic 3-0 just three days earlier.

Philippe Clement’s side produced arguably their best performance of his tenure at Ibrox on 2 January, but twice allowed Hibs to come back and salvage a point despite Hamza Igamane’s hat-trick at Easter Road.

Brazil said: “Beating Celtic and beating Celtic comfortably, and then they go and draw with Hibs?”

McCoist replied: “Yeah disappointing – is that quick enough for you?”

Oh come on, give me a wee bit more Alistair”, Brazil hit back. “Maybe they got them mixed up in the green and whites?”

McCoist added: “I jumped in the car to get back to watch the game – it was 2-0 before I got back into the house. The first 25 minutes were excellent again, and they just went to pieces.”

Rangers back to square one after Celtic and Hibernian results

McCoist and every other Light Blues fan will be wishing they had indeed confused Hibs’ colours with Celtic’s on Sunday, given the contrasting performance levels they showed across both games.

Had Clement’s players thought they were playing Celtic again at Easter Road, they may have matched the dominant display they showed at Ibrox on 2 January rather than dropping off after half an hour

Already two goals to the good within the first 20 minutes in the capital and frequently threatening to add further to the scoreline, the Gers soon went back to their old ways and allowed Hibs back into the game.

Hamza Igamane’s hat-trick – the third goal of which looked to have won it before another sucker-punch late on – has unfortunately been overshadowed by the Bears dropping yet more points away from home.

That Celtic performance will forever be the benchmark for Clement and his players for as long as the Belgian is in charge, but unless he can reverse Gers’ dismal away form, that may not be too much longer.
