AFL Top 100: Collingwood has one of the oldest team lists in 2025

Published

on

Collingwood had a disappointing 2024 season after winning the premiership in 2023.

Missing two players from last year (Nathan Murphy and Jack Ginnivan) the Magpies had a constant run of medium-term injuries which meant that an average of an additional 2.5 players from the Premiership team were missing every game

In spite of this, Collingwood – after two draws during the season – missed the finals only by percentage, being equal on points with eighth-placed Carlton.

Top 100 Game Players Lost: 0.

The Magpies have one of the oldest teams in the competition but opted to contract all their older players for 2025.

Nathan Murphy was still on the player’s list despite retiring before playing a game in 2024 but had not made it into the Top 100 game players at Collingwood.

Top 100 Game Players recruited from other clubs: 2.

In one of the better deals made during a hectic trade period, Collingwood managed to win the services of Port Adelaide player Dan Houston (#19) who could prove to be a ready-made replacement for Nathan Murphy.

Collingwood also recruited Harry Perryman (#14 – Greater Western Sydney) who should prove to be a handy utility player

Collingwood has an impressive list of current Top 100 game players in 2025.

Not only are Scott Pendlebury (#1) and Steele Sidebottom (#2) the leading two current players on the list but they are also the all-time leading game players at the Magpies, which also includes the remarkable Jack Crisp (#20) who has not missed a game since debuting for Collingwood in Round 1, 2015.

When his last six games as a Brisbane Lion is added to the total, his unbroken run of games is now 237, only seven games short of Melbourne’ Irish superstar the late Jim Stynes who holds the all-time record for consecutive AFL games

Only one player, Brody Mihocek has a realistic opportunity to reach the ‘bar’ for entry into the Top 100 game list at the club where the bar is the highest of the 18 AFL clubs.

Fan Favourite, Ricky Barham (1978-1986) a speedy winger recruited from South Warrnambool was the player to make way (38 years after his retirement), for ex-Melbourne player Jeremy Howe.
