Ace now Clement’s top priority as Rangers ready offer for another signing – report

Oscar Cortes has “leapt to the top of Philippe Clement’s list of priorities” as Rangers ready an offer to bring him in on loan, according to the Daily Record.

The paper reported on their website late on 28 January that the Lens “star” is the Ibrox boss’ number one focus after the arrivals of Fabio Silva and Mohamed Diomande, with the club “set to pounce” within the next 48 hours.

Although the Colombian “whizzkid” has only made four appearances for the Ligue 1 side since moving from Millonarios in the summer the Light Blues are reported confident that he will do better in Scotland.

The 20-year-old has already been released from international duty to clear up his immediate future.

Top priority

The youngster must be viewed as capable of making an immediate impact at Ibrox if Clement and Nils Koppen and looking for a loan at this stage, despite his lack of first-team football.

So they will have to be right about him being ready for more action that he has seen in France since making his European switch in the summer.

The Rangers boss has already decided that Alex Lowry isn’t ready for sustained first-team minutes at his parent club and intends to let him go out on loan again after his early return from Hearts.

So the recruitment department surely have seen something in Cortes that the Scot doesn’t yet have, and with Abdallah Sima’s place on the wing now vacated for virtually the rest of the season there is a big void to fill.

Following the early capture of Silva on loan from Wolves the window went quiet at Ibrox until the big-money deal to bring in Diomande from FC Nordsjaelland.

But it looks like with injuries leaving holes throughout a squad that Clement already needed to strengthen after the disastrous summer overhaul under Michael Beale the final few days before the window are going to be busy.
