A Massive Chant By Fans That Could Lead To FA “Sanction” But It Will Be Wolves That Will…
What Bournemouth and Wolves fans could be heard chanting during FA Cup clash speaks volumes
Bournemouth and Wolves locked horns in the FA Cup on Saturday afternoon as both sides fought for a place in the quarter-finals.
Wolves beat Bournemouth 1-0 in the Premier League last weekend, but Vitor Pereira knew this challenge was going to be even tougher as the Old Gold played against 10 men for most of the match.
Illia Zabarnyi’s red card handed the visitors the initiative in the tie, and talisman Matheus Cunha scored moments later to hand them the three points.
Unfortunately, with multiple changes to the starting lineup, Wolves were unable to give themselves a foothold in the first half of this FA Cup tie and instead went 1-0 behind.
Antoine Semenyo’s strike forced a save out of Sam Johnstone before Evanilson, who Wolves tried to sign in 2022, slid home the rebound
Bournemouth then thought they doubled their lead moments later as a corner was knocked into the net by defender Milos Kerkez.
However, what happened in the next seven minutes proved everything that is wrong with modern football and why supporters were annoyed.
Bournemouth and Wolves join forces with chant about VAR
Wolves fans have directed their frustrations towards VAR, and they showed their dislike for the technology during this FA Cup tie.
The second goal, which looked like a handball on Kerkez, ended up being given for offside, but it took a shocking seven minutes to come to that decision after referee Sam Barrott went over to VAR.
Barrott even called over both sets of managers and some of the players to discuss the decision, and this prompted an outpour of emotion from the stands.
During the seven-minute VAR check, both sets of supporters joined forces and started chanting, ‘It’s not football anymore’ and ‘this is embarrassing’.
Eventually, the second goal was chalked off, and Wolves were handed a lifeline in the tie, but it doesn’t take away from how long the decision took.
Wolves fans despise VAR
Supporters of Wolves despise VAR, and although they were on the right end of a call at the Vitality, they have been the subject of some shocking decisions.
For instance, Sasa Kalajdzic wasn’t awarded a penalty against Man United after being almost assaulted by goalkeeper Andre Onana in 2023.
Max Kilman’s goal against West Ham last season was also disallowed, leaving Gary O’Neil, the players and fans disgusted.
Sadly, those are just two in a long list of awful decisions, and it explains why fans think the technology is embarrassing and want it removed
The International Football Association Board (IFAB) have announced plans to change one major football rule for the 2025-26 season.
The IFAB have confirmed the rule on goalkeepers time wasting is to be changed next season.
Currently, Law 12.2 states a goalkeeper has six seconds to release the ball before the opposing team is awarded an indirect free-kick. This rule has now been amended.
IFAB make major football rule change for 2025-26 season
The IFAB have voted unanimously in favour of amending Law 12.2.
The amendment means goalkeepers, from next season, will have eight seconds to release the ball before the opposing team is awarded a corner kick.
On-field referees will be aided in their decision making by a visual five-second countdown.
