Bolton Wanderers’ Victor Adeboyejo facing knee injury scan
WANDERERS are keeping their fingers crossed for good news on striker Victor Adeboyejo after the striker limped out of their 2-1 win against Leyton Orient
Steven Schumacher has confirmed that the 27-year-old will be sent for scans on his knee after coming on as a substitute in Saturday’s comeback victory.
Adeboyejo played on with the injury at first and had also got back to defend some later pressure from the visitors before finally relenting and being replaced by Klaidi Lolos.
Speaking after the game Schumacher said: “Touch-wood it isn’t serious but credit to him as well for staying on for probably 10 minutes afterwards and doing that defensive role.
“He jarred his knee and it didn’t look too good from where I was standing but we will get him scanned and hopefully it won’t be a bad one but if it is, we’ll have to deal with it.”
The head coach was full of praise for his side, who had battled back from 1-0 deficit at half time to claim three points which puts them level with Orient and Charlton in the fight for sixth spot in the table.
John McAtee had equalised before Aaron Morley scored the winner from the penalty spot but Leyton Orient – who had not lost a league game in which they had scored first all season – fought hard to get back on level terms.
“When we needed to defend, we did it well,” Schumacher said. “Especially in the last 10 minutes, there was bodies on the line, we got a couple of blocks in our box, I remember Will Forrester putting in a really good challenge on a block shot.
“Luke Southwood hasn’t had too many saves to make, so from a defensive point of view they did really well.
“I know we keep conceding the first goal, but there isn’t too much getting in on our goal, we don’t look disorganised, it’s just in the moments.
“I thought we could have dealt with their first goal a bit better. But that’s football, you don’t get it all your own way for 90 minutes, certainly not, so you’ve just got to keep your cool in them moments and hope you do enough to get the win.”
McAtee scored his 10th goal of the season to keep up his solid run of scoring form, and the summer signing’s improved performances have reflected a team which is now showing the consistency they will need to break into the top six.
“He took his goal well,” Schumacher said. “He is one of the cases I have been talking about, a player who has had what’s required explained to him, what he needs day-to-day, on the training ground, and there’s no doubt he is another one who has got the talent.
“He is a good football and it looks like he’s playing with a smile on his face, he looks like he’s in good shape, and he’s fit.
“He actually came off today because he’d got a bit of a bang and some cramp, so we’ll see how he is, but he is definitely in some good form, three goals in two games is great, so long may that continue.
“It is going to take the whole squad and it’s going to be a long slog until the end of the season. It isn’t going to be easy and we have another really tough game at Wrexham on Saturday but we’ll be ready, we’ll recover and get ready for it.”
