Keshi Anderson was injured in the 2-0 defeat to Fulham in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday. He was holding back after a collision and was replaced by Tyler Roberts on the hour mark.
“I’ve not had an update from the physio but he pulled up with something just before he was going to come off,” said manager Chris Davies in a post-match press conference.
Birmingham will be able to call upon Wales under-21 Luke Harris again. He was unavailable on Tuesday because Fulham are his parent club.
Former club captain Dion Sanderson missed the win against Leyton Orient last weekend and is out for the next few weeks. The specifics of his injury haven’t been revealed but it will be a ‘few weeks’ according to Davies.
.Lee Buchanan remains sidelined after suffering a calf injury towards the end of the pre-season. He is expected to return to training in mid-September.
Alfie Chang is a long-term absentee and is still working towards his return. He suffered a knee injury last August.
Out: Alfie Chang, Dion Sanderson and Lee Buchanan. Doubt: Keshi Anderson
Wigan Athletic team news
Striker Dale Taylor has arrived on a season-long loan from Newcastle United. He hit five goals in 42 League One games for Burton Albion last season and now bolsters Wigan’s front line.
Matt Smith and Joe Hugill were taken off with cramp last week, but are expected to be available for this weekend. Smith came off in the 58th minute for Kai Payne and then Hugill made way for Chris Sze in the 77th.
Calvin Ramsay and Josh Stones were absent against Crawley. Liverpool loanee Ramsey has a tight adductor but manager Shaun Maloney said last week that he should be back in the middle of this week.
As for Stones, he could depart as Oldham Athletic consider making a loan move for him. The decision on whether he temporarily leaves the DW Stadium will be up to him.
Luke Robinson, Tyrese Francois, Jonny Smith, Michael Olakigbe and Tom Watson will all miss out. Our friends at Wigan Today say none of them will be available before the first international break of the season which is next week.
