44-year-old manager job untold Twist
French journalist Julien Laurens has shared an update on the future of Roberto De Zerbi, who has been linked with the jobs at Liverpool and Manchester United.
The Brighton and Hove Albion boss is one of the most exciting young managers in Europe. He is a wanted man, and rumours have claimed Liverpool and Manchester United both want him.
Manchester United-linked Roberto De Zerbi may not go to Liverpool
Roberto De Zerbi has done a terrific job at Brighton and Hove Albion since joining the club.
The Italian led the Seagulls to a sixth-place finish in the Premier League last season, just five points below Jurgen Klopp‘s Liverpool.
That’s probably why he is on FSG’s shortlist to replace the German when he leaves Liverpool at the end of this season.
Julian Laurens was asked about De Zerbi’s future yesterday, and the French journalist claimed that people at Brighton think he will leave the club in the summer.
He then mentioned a number of teams looking for a new manager and Liverpool were one of them. However, he quickly seemed to suggest that De Zerbi may not go to Anfield to replace Klopp.
Laurens said on TNT Sports: “I think people at the club feel he is a little bit disgruntled and he might not be there next season. Yes, (he complained) on the ownership as well, which is really rare from him.
“Obviously, with all the top clubs in Europe looking for a manager in the summer, from Napoli to Bayern to Liverpool to Barcelona – not that he will go to Liverpool, I think, but maybe Manchester United, maybe Juve, maybe Milan, a lot of top, top clubs.
“If I was a Brighton fan, I would be a little bit worried.”
De Zerbi would be brilliant at Manchester United
Erik ten Hag is still at the helm at Manchester United, but his future is far from certain.
The Red Devils are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League next season, and with Sir Jim Ratcliffe in charge of all things football now, there is a chance he will want to bring his own manager in.
A number of names have been linked with the Manchester United job, but we feel Roberto De Zerbi would be a fantastic option for the Red Devils.
Ten Hag, despite being at the helm for almost two years, still doesn’t have a style of football that everybody recognises. De Zerbi, on the other hand, will bring that almost immediately, just like he did at Brighton when he took over from Graham Potter.
We think De Zerbi would be brilliant at Old Trafford, but whether INEOS will go for him remains to be seen.
