CRYSTAL PALANCE
£39m forward that Zidane absolutely loves
Crystal Palace are still keen on signing Borja Mayoral from Getafe and now recent reports suggest a bid could be on the cards.
The striker hunt at Crystal Palace this January has been absolutely exhausting already, and it’s only January 11th.
The Eddie Nketiah saga seems to be never-ending with reports today suggesting Palace were willing to offer £30m.
Going the other way Jean-Philippe Mateta no longer seems keen to depart with noise around that seemingly gone quiet.
One man who remains on the cards though is Getafe striker Borja Mayoral, who we reported last month was an option for Palace.
Now there’s been an update on the forward which suggests Palace could be willing to submit a bid, despite Arsenal being knocked back.
Borja Mayoral a priority for Crystal Palace
Early on Thursday, it was reported by The Mirror that Arsenal had just had a £22m bid rejected for Mayoral. This however hasn’t discouraged Palace.
According to Netsport.uk, Mayoral is still very much in the thinking of Palace and in fact, they’re willing to make a bid with strengthening the No. 9 position a priority for The Eagles.
The Mirror’s report included a figure which Getafe have reportedly told Arsenal they’d accept, this is £39m which is an eye-watering amount but it’s clear to see why they’ve set it as only Jude Bellingham has outscored him in La Liga this season.
If Palace are able to break up the £39m into instalments or most of it with add-ons to round out the number, they should definitely be able to afford the asking price. After all, there is believed to be £30m available which was in the Nketiah piece.
Mayoral has been on fire for Getafe
The 26-year-old is in his prime years and he’s showing it with 12 goals and an assist in just 19 La Liga games. It’s clear – from this form – why Zinedine Zidane was such a fan of the forward.
The legendary Frenchman compared Mayoral with another Real Madrid legend Raul back when the striker was breaking through the ranks at the Bernabeu.
He’s absolutely the kind of forward that Michael Olise could thrive next to and potentially begin racking up the assists again opposed to just scoring.
The good thing about the Nketiah chase though is that Steve Parish now has no excuse not to go and try to sign long-term target Mayoral.
