£10 Million Is A “Huge” Amount, But You Can Not Use Money To Buy Our Decision, Coach Spoke Angrily
West Bromwich Albion Stance Revealed On £10 Million Offer
West Bromwich Albion have rejected a £10 million bid from Southampton for winger Tom Fellows, but still face a fight to keep hold of the 21-year-old, according to TEAMtalk.
With the final moments of the transfer window approaching, the Baggies are bracing themselves for interest in their academy graduate. It’s set to be a busy 24 hours or so at the Hawthorns, with Mickey Johnston expected to seal his return to the West Midlands from Scottish giants Celtic
It could be a case of one in and one out for manager Carlos Corberan though. Fellows enjoyed his breakthrough campaign last season, making 38 appearances in all competitions
The attacker was widely praised for his performances and his form has continued into this season. West Brom have enjoyed an excellent start, winning two and drawing one of their opening three fixtures, all of which Fellows has started.
This has seen a trio of Premier League clubs take an interest. It is claimed that Southampton were the first to make a concrete offer of £10 million, which has been rejected by West Brom. This has been followed by news that Ipswich Town have made a £11.5 million approach that has also been rebuffed. However, Football Insider state that the Tractor Boys are locked in talks with the Championship club, with talks at an advanced stage.
Kieran McKenna’s side have been highly active throughout the transfer window. The former Manchester United coach has also plucked the majority of his signings from the second tier, including the likes of Jacob Greaves, Jack Clarke, Sammie Szmodics and Dara O’Shea.
West Brom continue to hold the upper hand though. The versatile youngster was picking up interest prior to the winter transfer window, prompting the Baggies to tie him down to a new deal in January. He is now under contract at the Hawthorns until 2027. TEAMtalk claim that they value the player at £15 million.
Writer’s View
It would be a huge blow for West Brom to lose one of their key players this close to the end of the transfer window. They have started the season brightly and have Premier League ambitions of their own, so will be desperate to convince Fellows to remain at the club.
That said, money talks and if the Baggies receive a late offer which meets their valuation, they will reluctantly sanction the move. Everton are another said to be keeping tabs on the situation, but Ipswich have shown in the past few weeks that they are willing to explore their new-found wealth in order to maintain Premier League survival. This is one that could develop quickly.
