The latest Nottingham Forest transfer news as Brennan Johnson prepares to make his Tottenham debut after leaving the City Ground

Ange Postecoglou says he brought Brennan Johnson to Tottenham as much for the person as the player.

Speaking after his Spurs side hammered Burnley 5-2 at Turf Moor – and following the £47.5million transfer from Nottingham Forest which ended a summer-long saga, the Australian was asked why he targeted the 22-year-old.

Postecoglou, who has made a positive start to life in north London and has taken ten points from four Premier League games, praised the Wales international.

“[He is] another exciting young player. He’s a real threat in the front third and he’s a bit different to what we’ve already got. He’s young, ambitious,” he said.

“It’s no secret that that’s been the model for me, not just here but wherever I’ve gone. It’s just as much about the person you’re bringing in as the footballer. Looking at him, he’s going to fit in really well with this group because he’s really ambitious and hungry and he wants to take his game to another level. The technical and the physical attributes he has I think he should fit in really well with us.”

Johnson’s departure brought the curtain down on a 14-year relationship with the Reds, one which saw him come through the academy ranks and make 109 first team appearances. He was part of the team which won promotion back to the top flight for the first time in a quarter of a century and inspired the club to safety last term. Forest also negotiated a ten per cent sell-on as part of the transfer.

Forest started life without Johnson in positive fashion by winning away at Chelsea on Saturday. The winger will hope to make his Spurs bow after the international break against Sheffield United on September 16.
