Nottingham Forest have set the ball rolling when it comes to important contract decisions, but they still have a few key calls yet to make.

The first day of the January transfer window saw confirmation a one-year extension option in Harry Toffolo’s deal had been exercised. The defender will now be tied to the Reds until 2025.

Forest must now decide what to do when it comes to other players whose contracts are due to run out at the end of the season. If fresh terms are not agreed, those concerned could walk away as free agents in the summer.

This month represents a final chance for the Reds to cash-in on those affected. The club must decide whether to let them go, allow their deals to expire or put forward a new contract.

Below, we take a look at the players whose deals are set to run out this summer. The length of a contract was not always disclosed when a player signed.

Ethan Horvath: Not included in the 25-man Premier League squad for the first half of the campaign, the goalkeeper will most likely move before the winter window closes. Having got used to playing regularly on loan at Luton Town last season, he will no doubt be keen to get his career going again.

Wayne Hennessey: Forest do need to address their goalkeeping department. Much will rest on whether they decide to bring in another keeper this month amid unconvincing performances from summer signings Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos. Hennessey is currently third-choice.

George Shelvey: The club hold an option to extend the youngster’s contract until 2025. A January loan move could be best for his development.

Loic Mbe Soh: The centre-back is on a season-long loan at Almere City. He has found it tough to get a look-in at the City Ground since moving from PSG in 2020.

Scott McKenna: Linked with a number of clubs, the promotion-winner is among the players who could depart Forest this month amid a contract dispute. Celtic are reportedly keen.

Willy Boly: As with between the posts, central defence is a position the Reds will assess this month. They want to bring a defender in and are aware a few centre-backs will see their deals expire in the summer – Boly being one. He has been a key player, though.

Felipe: What happens with the Brazilian will likely depend on his fitness. He was outstanding in the second half of last season as survival was secured but has suffered injury problems since then. He is currently sidelined with a hamstring issue.

Serge Aurier: There was interest in the right-back from Saudi Arabia last summer, but he is believed to have been keen to stay at the City Ground. He is out of action with a calf injury and faces a fight to get his place back when he recovers.
