Santos spent pre-season with Chelsea but had not made an appearance in either of their Premier League games so far before completing his move to Forest on Friday.

A statement from Chelsea on Friday afternoon read: ‘The Brazilian midfielder will continue his progression at the City Ground, as he joins fellow Premier League side Forest for the upcoming campaign.

‘Santos, who joined Chelsea last winter from Vasco da Gama before returning to the Brazilian side on loan, impressed for the Blues in pre-season this summer but will now spend the season under the guidance of Steve Cooper, a head coach renowned for working with emerging young talent.’

Meanwhile, Chelsea have previously held talks with Forest over a deal to sign Brennan Johnson.

Pochettino’s side are in the market to sign another new forward before the end of the window but they also face competition from Spurs for the Wales international.

When asked if Forest had received any offers for Johnson, Steve Cooper said on Thursday: ‘I’m not sure, I don’t deal with that. I just deal with Brennan day-to-day.

‘We’re talking a lot at the moment, but they’re normal conversations about performance and development and everything else that goes round him being at his best – or aiming to be at his best.

‘That’s our plan and that’s what we do. And if we get told at some stage that things change – not just with him, with any of the players – then we’ll deal with it then.

‘But I can imagine there is speculation around Brennan. I don’t pay attention to it myself. He’s a really talented young player and the exciting bit is that he’s got a lot more to come as well.

‘We love working with him as a player, we love him as a boy and, like I say, day-to-day we’re really enjoying continuing to work with him and everybody else.’
