Nottingham Forest
players dropped by forest due to FFP
This month already had the makings of being a big transfer window for Nottingham Forest given it was Nuno Espirito Santo’s first as head coach.
But the recent focus on the Reds’ financial situation means it has only taken on added importance. Any deals done need to be the right ones.
The priority for Forest will be on overseeing outgoings, with Nuno having been clear he wants to work with a smaller squad. A start has already been made on that front as Gustavo Scarpa and Andrey Santos have departed, and others will follow.
Financial Fair Play was always likely to be a factor in the club’s January business. There is no need for a huge dressing room overhaul, but a few additions would still be most welcome as the Reds look to push up the Premier League table.
They will need to be smart about their signings, though. And with other areas in particular need of strengthening, it might be that the goalkeeper situation is best put on hold.
Both Matt Turner and Odysseas Vlachodimos only signed in the summer. Neither have been convincing and have made some mistakes, leading to debate about whether a new keeper is required.
