Robbie Mustoe has raved about Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White, naming him as the Underappreciated Premier League Player of the Week. The youngster scored the winning goal as Forest beat Manchester United 2-1 at the weekend.
Gibbs-White signed for Forest in the summer of 2022. He cost the club an initial £25 million and was instantly given the number 10 shirt. Last season, he made more appearances than any other outfield player, scoring five goals and claiming eight assists.
On Saturday, Gibbs-White was outstanding as Forest claimed a famous win. It was the first time that Forest have beaten United in the Premier League era and fans rejoiced at the full-time whistle.
Mustoe raves about Morgan Gibbs-White
Forest fans absolutely love Gibbs-White and his performances are largely hardworking and tenacious. Under Nuno Espirito Santo he’s been back in his regular position as a number 10 and boy has he thrived.
He was magnificent against Newcastle on Boxing Day, with four key passes coming from Gibbs-White at St James’ Park. Against United, he followed that up with a goalscoring performance.
Now, Mustoe has raved about Forest star Gibbs-White and told The Two Robbie’s Podcast: “I’m going to chuck in an underappreciated player and he signed for quite a big fee but has excelled and he’s developing with the emotional, technical and physical attributes that you need to be a Premier League player and that’s Morgan Gibbs-White.
“He’s kind of floated around in a number of positions. He’s come to Forest and he’s a real talent. We know about his skill and his ability on the attacking side of things but I’ve been impressed recently with his emotional drive. He’s fired up and sometimes that’s not always the best thing but he smacks of someone who cares about what he’s doing.”
Forest must protect Gibbs-White at all costs
This weekend, the Reds face Blackpool in the FA Cup and surely Gibbs-White will get a rest. He’s started all but two of Forest’s 20 Premier League games this season and a rest would be ideal.
As a young player who always gives his all, he won’t want to come out of the team. However, Espirito Santo must make a judgement call based on where he thinks Gibbs-White is at from a fitness point of view.
Forest did superbly well to get Gibbs-White to join them in the summer of 2022. He’s showcased his talent throughout his time at the club and the hope will be that he can kick on even further under Espirito Santo.
