Nottingham Forest head coach Nuno Espirito Santo has some words for Joe Worrall.
The head coach has been discussing the club captain with BBC Sport.
So what has Espirito Santo said about Forest defender Worrall? Let’s take a look…
Espirito Santo has praise for Forest defender Worrall
Well, it would appear that the player might not be getting banished from the Forest team just yet, despite Worrall allegedly falling out with Steve Cooper who was sacked in December.
With Moussa Niakhate and Willy Boly now in Africa ready for the Cup of Nations, it’s fair to say that Forest are light regarding central defenders.
Ahead of today’s game with Blackpool in the FA Cup, Forest head coach Espirito Santo has been quizzed on Worrall and he might be in line for another chance to prove himself today.
The head coach told BBC Sport: “It doesn’t matter if you participate in the game or are on the bench, every player is important.
“From now, we are going to start making decisions. Joe is the club captain – I recognise and respect him for what he has done before.
“He has to prove himself and he has a chance now so we will see.”
Just lately, Worrall has been linked with a move away from Forest, with West Ham and Leicester touted as being interested in his services.
Worrall now in last chance saloon at the City Ground
This really is it for Worrall at Forest. With Boly and Niakhate now away and Scott McKenna attracting interest from Rangers and Celtic, Worrall has to grasp this chance.
He will almost certainly play today and the ball is now firmly in his court with this opportunity to impress Espirito Santo and win a reprieve at Forest.
The 26-year-old is a product of the club’s academy and he only signed a long-term contract with the club earlier this season.
Worrall has made 224 appearances for Forest since graduating from the academy ranks but he’s struggled to prove himself as a Premier League defender.
Thankfully for Worrall, it appears that Espirito Santo is keen to hand everyone at Forest a clean slate and that is likely to mean the captain getting a chance from the start today.
