Nottingham Forest will travel to St George’s Park during their winter break as Nuno Espirito Santo looks forward to getting to know his squad better.

After Sunday’s FA Cup tie with Blackpool, the Reds are not in action again until their trip to Brentford on January 20. The free weekend presents an opportunity for Nuno to spend valuable time with his players.

He has had a hectic fixture list to contend with since he took charge last month. Spending three days at St George’s Park will provide the chance for extra training sessions and for some team bonding.

“We’re going to do a couple of days away from here,” Nuno explained. “It will be a chance to eat and socialise together – all of these things I personally think are very helpful.

“After the game, we will go to St George’s Park. It will be a chance to have double sessions and be around the players and have time, which is something we don’t always have. It is good to have time; have time to sit down and talk. Being together is important.

“It’s not like a pre-season – I wish! But it is a good chance for us to be together as a squad.

“It allows us to have double sessions. We will work in the mornings, have lunch together and then rest, have meetings, be together in social areas, then we can have another good session in the afternoon and a good rest. We can be close to each other. The club have given us the opportunity to do that, and St George’s is a beautiful place to go.”

The clash with the Seasiders will be Nuno’s fourth match in charge of Forest. And he will be aiming for a third successive win after Premier League victories over Newcastle United and Manchester United.

He is still making his mark on the team and getting his ideas across. But he has paid tribute to the players for the work they have done so far.
