Espirito Santo proves himself right to Darragh MacAnthony
Peterborough United chairman Darragh MacAnthony has claimed he’s been proved wrong by Nottingham Forest boss Nuno Espirito Santo.
He’s been speaking to The Hard Truth podcast about the Forest head coach.
The Reds beat Newcastle and Manchester United over the Christmas period to go five points clear of the relegation zone.
MacAnthony lauds Forest boss Espirito Santo
The wins that Forest claimed over Christmas have led lots of pundits to heap praise on Espirito Santo.
When he first joined the club, there were some suggestions that he might now be the right man, with Chris Sutton particularly critical.
But, Espirito Santo isn’t really bothered what people think and he’s made sure actions are louder than words at Forest.
Now, MacAnthony has come out and basically said that he might have been wrong about the new Forest head coach too.
He told The Hard Truth Podcast: “To be fair after seeing what they did to Newcastle I was wrong about Nuno.
“I always thought he was a bit bland as a manager but they got three goals at Newcastle then beat United pretty comfortably.
“Their owner was right. I know everyone is a Steve Cooper fan but it was obviously the right thing to do.
“A change is as good as a rest and those two wins, if you take those points away they would be in the bottom three, so those wins were critical.”
Boss knows he has tough Forest assignment
It’s not uncommon for a new head coach to come in and immediately get a bounce of good form out of his team.
As a result, Espirito Santo won’t be getting carried away with the good start to his time at Forest and will appreciate there is work to do.
The Reds will be happy that the January transfer window is open. Forest will likely want a smaller squad for Espirito Santo to work with and several outgoings could happen.
Ultimately. Espirito Santo will be judged on winning games of football at Forest. It’s a case of so far, so good and it’s good to hear a respected football person like MacAnthony laud the head coach.
