Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers are reportedly among a plethora of Premier League teams interested in signing Red Bull Salzburg defender Strahinja Pavlovic this summer.

The Serbian international, recently a competitor at the 2024 UEFA European Championships in Germany, could leave Salzburg just two years after arriving from AS Monaco.

reports Villa, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Newcastle United, Chelsea and Fulham are all “in the mix” to sign Pavlovic. All six English top-flight clubs have been keeping tabs on his progress, including during the Euros as Serbia were knocked out as fourth-placed finishers in Group C.

Pavlovic, who played every minute in Germany including the full 1-0 defeat to England, made 37 appearances for Salzburg last campaign. It was a slight increase from the season before as the 23-year-old, a consistent starter and key player, featured 34 times throughout 2022/23.

Villa and Wolves suit Pavlovic in different ways

Physical and dominant in the air, Pavlovic has already racked up 38 senior caps for Serbia and 28 appearances across the Champions League and Europa League. His experience in continental competitions will be appreciated by Villa as they prepare to embark on their first Champions League campaign.

Unai Emery is unlikely to guarantee Pavlovic consistent starts but minutes in Europe’s elite competition would likely be on offer, especially in the new league format. He could be a good rotation option in the Premier League, too, when fellow left-footed defenders Pau Torres and Tyrone Mings tire

Wolves, meanwhile, are looking for a replacement for Maxmilian Kilman. The Old Gold’s captain is expected to reunite with Julen Lopetegui at West Ham United after an offer of £40 million was accepted. It’s claimed Salzburg would accept around £25 million for Pavlovic.
