Nottingham Forest
battle for the upcoming yongstar with forest by other side
Both Celtic and Rangers are now interested in signing Nottingham Forest defender Scott McKenna during the January transfer window.
So, exactly what is the situation involving Forest defender Scott McKenna and the Old Firm? Let’s take a look…
Celtic and Rangers want to sign Forest defender Scott McKenna
Well, the promotion-winning centre-back has no future at Forest, amid reports of a contract dispute involving McKenna.
Now, TalkSPORT reporter Alex Crook believes that both Celtic and Rangers have McKenna on their shortlist of transfer targets this month.
McKenna has made five appearances for Forest during 2023/24 but hasn’t featured at all since a 1-1 draw with Burnley in September.
The 27-year-old signed for Forest from Aberdeen in 2020 and over the years the fee has risen to around £6 million.
McKenna was outstanding for Forest as they won promotion during 2021/22. He made 51 appearances during that season, winning the Player of the Year award.
Forest must offload defender this month
It’s hard not to think that Forest have failed McKenna a little bit given the level of service he’s given to the football club.
The uncompromising defender was the Man of the Match in the Play-Off Final when Forest won promotion and made 24 appearances in the top flight last season.
Celtic and Rangers are two clubs that will likely appeal to the player. Fenerbahce have also expressed an interest in McKenna recently and could land him for free on a pre-contract arrangement.
It’s hard not to have a little tinge of sadness with the McKenna situation. Although he has fallen a little bit short of quality in the Premier League, he’s always done a job for the team when called upon.
Now, the time looks right for him to leave. If Forest can get a fee for McKenna this month they will consider it a successful piece of business.
